Life can be confusing sometimes. But that's life.
Fortune telling in the past
From the beginning of humanity, men tried to predict the future. Here are some soothsayers who were famous in their time.
Cassandra, the gift of predicting the future
Cassandra comes from Greek mythology, she is daughter of Priam and Hecube. She was very beautiful and Apollo fell in love with her. So he offers her the gift of clairvoyance as a present. But she didn't fall in love with him. So, for revenge, Apollo decrees that no one will believe her predictions (that's really mean).
For example, she made the prophecy that the Trojan horse was a trap. But unfortunately nobody believed her. You, for sure, know the end of that famous story.
The Pythia of the Temple of Apollo
In the ancient Greece, she was the oracle from the Temple of Apollo in Delphi. To be able to give predictions, she had to fall into trance, and then she was accessing visions from the future. But these were not understandable by everyone, they had to be interpreted by qualified priest.
People used to say that the Pythia was not totally neutral and that she was sometimes leading her divinations.
Nostradamus, the reputed seer
He wrote a book, 'The Prophecies', in which there were predictions about future facts (There are different versions of the book but nobody really knows if they are all from the author). The book has been widely commented, in almost ten thousand of different documents. As you can imagine, there is a lot of divergences when it comes to interpretations. The very particular style of writing (a bit obscure) and the loss of the original manuscript make it more unclear.
One of Nostradamus prediction was the death of Henry II.

The false predictions
The world of fortune telling has its failures, here are some examples.
Paco Rabanne, the end of the world
The famous couturier who calls himself extralucid, announced in 1999 the end of the world. According to him, the space station Mir should have crashed on the earth on August 11, 1999 at 11h22. This prediction comes from a vision he had when he was younger and a cross-check with Nostradamus prophecies. We are still alive so it seems that he was untrue and he is not a really great fortune teller.
Maya calendar, the end of the world, again
The Maya calendar was supposed to end in December 2012. So some people thought it meant something important. Some said this date would be the beginning of a new era. And for many others it was a sign of an imminent disaster.
But nothing remarkable happened (but maybe they were wrong by a few years 😱).
Modern fortune teller, a new era
With the introduction of the Internet, some new kind of psychic tools appeared online. Here some of them.
The pendulum, a direct answer
It's an old fortune telling practice that can answer a question immediately by yes or no. It consists of a mass suspended with a chain that will oscillate making circles. The idea is to interpret the oscillation to have a clear answer to a specific question. You will find some virtual one by searching on Google.
Tarot cards reading, more specific predictions
You have to choose a specified number of cards (for example from a 'tarot de Marseille' desk). Then a virtual medium will interpret them and give you some divinations about your future.
The fortune cookie, a little bit more fun
This is the famous cookie you will get at the end of a dinner in a Chinese restaurant. You just have to break it and you will find inside a small paper with a prediction. There is actually some good virtual restaurant online.
